Due to seating arrangement requirements, HERO members need to arrive at all theatre and orchestra events 30 minutes in advance or they may have to forfeit their ticket.  all other field trips, HERO members need to arrive 15 minutes early or they may not be able to attend the event.  Also note that there will be no refunds offered if you cancel your field trip reservation. You are required to pay for  the field trips when you sign up for them.  Field trip folders are located by the Welcome Desk at each of the HERO locations.

Open House in the Activity Building at the HERO Forest Lake site. This is the time to meet the teachers, ask questions, register for classes, sign up for your volunteer hours, and purchase your textbooks.  Parent Orientation meeting with Jayne Wahlberg, Administrator of HERO will be held at 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM Teachers will be available to talk to from 5:00 - 8:00 PM in the gymnasium.

Family Workshop - "How to Make Sure Your Child Has The Social Skills to Be Successful in Today's World"  A study from Harvard University showed that 85% of our future success depends on social skills.  In this two hour session we will cover: 1. Making a good first impression in introductions, 2. Manners in public places, 3. Basic dining skills.  This class is very interactive with role play, eating, and learning that manners can be fun! This workshop is for students ages 10 and up. Time:  10:00 - 12:00.  Cost is $10/person   The cost does include a  snack. Wargo Nature Center - Pioneer and Settler Heritage Lab.  This is an eight station outdoor educational lab covering Pioneer life in early Minnesota.  Stations will cover topics such as: Summer Kitchen, Learn Your Lesson, Surveying the Wilderness, Come to Wenstrom's Mercantile, Life in a Covered Wagon, The People Next Door, Pioneer Pastimes, and The Craft of Cloth.  Cost is $5/person.   Check in time: 9:30 AM.  This event will be held rain or shine.  Dress warm and bring a bag lunch.

Splat Tag - Paint ball in Hudson, WI.  Cost is $10/person plus $6 for 100 balls.  A parent waiver must be signed by the parent.  Please go to their website at www.spattag.com  to download the consent form.  Time:  10:30-2 PM  This is for students in grade 4 - 12.

Two part field trip - PART I - Paddleford Packet Boat Trip down the river - we load at Harriet Island in St. Paul.  The boat ride travels to Fort Snelling and back.  The boat cruise is 1.5 hours in length.  We load the boat at 9:45.  PART II of the field trip, we will take a historical tour of the Wabasha Street Caves (12:30-1:30).   Cost of the boat ride is $6/person and $4/person for the Wabasha Cave tour.

The Textile Center - Begin with a tour of the Textile Center and Weavers Guild classrooms.  There will be a demonstration on a floor loom, there will be a weaving activity for everyone to try on a frame style loom.  This is a really adaptable activity, so the littlest kids will be able to weave a simple pattern on their own.  Older students can try more advanced techniques.  Cost: $7.00/person.  Check in time: 12:45 PM.  Address:  3000 University Ave. SE, Minneapolis, MN
Thursday,      November 12      7:30 PM Class of 2010 Graduation planning meeting for HERO seniors and their parents.  We will be making preparations for the HERO graduation which will be held at Crossroads Covenant Church in Forest Lake on Wednesday, May 28, 2010.    This is the first of three planning meetings throughout the school year.  It is important that both the senior and one of their parents attend the meetings. It will  be held at Denny's Restaurant in Maplewood, across from Maplewood Mall on White Bear Ave. in their meeting room. There is a graduation form on the HERO website that all seniors need to fill out and return to Jayne Wahlberg, Administrator of HERO.

HERO is having a Book Fair fundraiser at Barnes &  Noble Bookstore, Har-Mar Mall, Rosedale. This is a family event!  HERO will be hosting fun family events from 6:00-8:00 PM. Come and see SPOT the dog.  Invite your friends and family to do their Christmas shopping (books, CD's, videos, New York Cheese Cake, etc. ) HERO will receive 20%  of the total purchases on this day If you designate the HERO book Fair.  There will also be coupons available stating that this is a fundraiser for HERO.  You may shop at any Barnes & Noble if you have this coupon and HERO will receive the credit for the sale. HERO has rented Saints North Inline & Roller Skating Center in Maplewood from 5:00-7:30 PM.  Cost is $5/person which includes roller-skates.  If you wish to rent rollerblades they are an additional $3.00.  Laser Tag is available for an additional cost. HERO Christmas concert at Mall of America featuring the HERO Choir Ensemble, HERO Choirs, Jazz Ensemble, Strings Ensemble, Sign Language Class and one of HERO's piano students.  We will be performing at the Best Buy Rotunda.  This is a great opportunity for our students to perform for the public.  Bring your friends and family and come and support our students.

HERO Christmas piano recital at Presbyterian Homes in Arden hills.  The concert will begin at 10:30 and will last approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour.  This is a great way for our students to share their talents with the senior citizens.  Come and support the HERO students and share in the Christmas spirit.

 HERO is giving the PLAN (10th grade) and the EXPLORE (8th and 9th grade) exams.  Check in is 8:30-8:50 AM.  The test will begin at 9:00 AM.  Non-HERO members are invited to register for the test.  Cost: $20 per exam. The exams will be giving in the lower level of the Main Church Building at Crossroads Covenant Church, Forest Lake.  There are a limited number of tests available. Students need to bring a bottle of water, a snack, and a calculator. The test will be done at 12:00 noon.

HERO Valley Fair Day - The park is open 10 AM - 8 PM.  Check in time is 9:30 AM, inside the parking lot,  at the front gate of the park.  Cost: $21.00 for all persons over 48".  Age three up to 48" cost is: $18.00 Children age 0 up to age 3 are free.  You can invite guests to attend.  Please register them ahead of time with HERO.

HERO Summer Educational Enrichment Camp starts.  Our summer enrichment camp will meet Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 9:00-2:00 for two weeks.  Each class will be 1.5 hours.  Classes will be offered for students going into grade 1 through 12.  The dates will be June 22, 23, 24 and June 29, 30 and July 1. More details will be coming.  HERO members and Non-HERO members are welcome to register for classes.
