Due to seating arrangement requirements, HERO members need to arrive at all theatre and orchestra events 30 minutes in advance or they may have to forfeit their ticket.  all other field trips, HERO members need to arrive 15 minutes early or they may not be able to attend the event.  Also note that there will be no refunds offered if you cancel your field trip reservation. You are required to pay for  the field trips when you sign up for them.  Field trip folders are located by the Welcome Desk at each of the HERO locations.

6:00 PM - 8:30 PM
Open House in the Activity Building at the HERO Forest Lake site. This is the time to meet the teachers, ask questions, register for classes, sign up for your volunteer hours, and purchase your textbooks.  Parent Orientation meeting with Jayne Wahlberg, Administrator of HERO will be held at 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM Teachers will be available to talk to from 6:30 - 8:30 PM in the gymnasium.

Monday,        September 8 Classes begin at HERO. We have two 17 week semesters.  First semester ends on  January 13, 2009.  Second semester begins on Monday, January 19, 2009.

This is the last day to make any changes to your child's first semester schedule.  There are no refunds for classes that are dropped after August 25.  You may add classes or change classes until September 16.

Wargo Nature Center Heritage Lab in Centerville.  The topic this year is Minnesota Indians.  Check in time 9:30 AM.  This event is held rain or shine and the entire activity is outside.  Please dress for the weather.  Bring a bag lunch.  More information will be coming.  The date is subject to change.

 HERO Splat Tag - paint balling in Hudson, WI.  This is for students in grades 4 through adult.  Check in time: 10:30 AM.  The cost is $10/person plus $6.00 for 100 paintballs.  This does include the equipment.  Go to www.splattag.com for directions to the site. All students will need to sign a waiver.  Bring a bag lunch and something to drink.  We will be playing until 2 PM rain or shine.

HERO's second annual pig (pork) roast and family fun night at Crossroads. This event is for the entire family.  We will be having a pig roast (along with other goodies), games, prizes, etc.  This is a great time to meet the other HERO families.  The cost is: $3/person (age 4 and above) with a family maximum of $25.  Menu includes: pork, potatoes, brown beans, bread, and drink.  We are asking the HERO families to sign up to bring a salad or dessert to share.  This event will be at the HERO Forest Lake site, Crossroads Covenant Church, Activity Building.

Wednesday, October1 Your annual compulsory home schooling report is due at your local school district. See the HERO Parent Handbook for a copy of the form. Fill out the form in the HERO Handbook (from MACHE) or the form from MHA to send to your school district.
Wednesday, October1 "Little House on the Prairie" at the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis.  Check in time is 12:45 PM.  Cost is $16/person.  Minimum age requirement is 6 years of age.

North West Company Fur Post in Pine City.  This is a reconstructed site of John Sayer's wintering post on the Snake River.  Students will be introduced to 1804 and the story of the British fur trade in the upper Midwest.  Students discover the hat craze that drove the fur trade as well as the international markets that supplied it.  Cost is $5/person.  Check in time 11:45 AM.  Tour 2:00-4:00 PM.

School pictures with Life Touch Photography - 9:30 to 2 PM.  Students who get their pictures taken will be given a photo ID and their picture will be in the HERO yearbook.  Picture packages are also available for purchase.

Thursday,      November 6        7:00 PM Class of 2009 Graduation planning meeting for HERO seniors and their parents.  We will be making preparations for the HERO graduation which will be held at Crossroads Covenant Church in Forest Lake on Wednesday, May 27, 2009.    This is the first of three planning meetings throughout the school year.  It is important that both the senior and one of their parents attend the meetings. It will  be held at Denny's Restaurant in Maplewood, across from Maplewood Mall on White Bear Ave. in their meeting room. There is a graduation form on the HERO website that all seniors need to fill out and return to Jayne Wahlberg, Administrator of HERO.

HERO is having a Book Fair fundraiser at Barnes &  Noble Bookstore, Har-Mar Mall, Rosedale. This is a family event!  HERO will be hosting fun family events from 6:00-8:00 PM.  Come and meet, "The Cat in the Hat!"  Invite your friends and family to do their Christmas shopping (books, CD's, videos, New York Cheese Cake, etc. ) HERO will receive 20%  of the total purchases on this day If you designate the HERO book Fair.  There will also be coupons available stating that this is a fundraiser for HERO.  You may shop at any Barnes & Noble if you have this coupon and HERO will receive the credit for the sale.

HERO has rented Saints North Inline & Roller Skating Center in Maplewood from 5:00-7:30 PM.  Cost is $5/person which includes roller-skates.  If you wish to rent rollerblades they are an additional $2.00.  Laser Tag is available for $2.50/person.  This is an event that you can invite non-HERO members to attend. Civil War Tour at the Minnesota State Capitol.  This is an hour and a half program geared for grade 3 and up.  Cost is $5/person. Check in time 9:45 AM.  Tour starts at 10:00 AM
